Why I will never eat pecan pie

I have always been physically repulsed by pecan pie, and have never taken a bite of it. Why?

Bathroom Cockroach

Am I the only one who sees a disturbing resemblance?

Just give your pie a good once-over before you dig in, and you'll be fine. Pecan pie is pretty tasty.

Bourbon and chocolate chips - it completes the test perfectly.

If you knew how most foods were made, you'd never eat them.

Start with "range fed chickens" which means a chicken that roams around where ranchers feed cattle grain, eating undigested grain from patties. Take it full circle, chicken poop is 20% protein and is often fed to cattle either wet or in a pelletized form as produced by egg farms.

Yes, Chris, I think you may have. I'll get over it. It was a pain in the ass to make anyhow.

I'm just trying really to hard to resist the connection to my waldorf salad, into which I put spicy candied pecans.

Wait until you find out what the filling is made of.

Stever: Sounds yummy. But do I have to find what they eat appealing to want to eat them?

People use manure of various animals to fertilize vegetable gardens, too. Oh well, just wash 'em well first.

mcg: I might actually find the whole cockroaches harder to swallow than the purified people.

Jennifer: I did you a favor. Pecan pie has more calories from fat than any other pie.

Only because it's the best tasting pie, but then, you'll never know.

Now, if you want _disgusting_... I have a hard time with apple juice sometimes. The taste is fine, but ... the smell alone is _very_ similar to the smell of a rather large cockroach (different species than in your picture) when you squish it. These things have a _very_ penetrating odor when squished that's a lot like intense apple smell. They were very common in rural Florida when I was growing up (though I think they're more an outdoor than indoor roach).

Nope. But many people do.."uum look honey Range Fed Chickens only $8/lb, its so much better than that Tyson chicken. And healthier too!"

I wonder what it would cost to get your mother to eat a piece. More than an egg sandwich? Priceless?

This'll either totally gross you out, or bring you around: in my family we used to make x-rated gingerbread people, and a pecan half represented the female genitalia.

What does spaghetti remind you of? Or, sausage? Hot Dog? Chilli? Most Mexican food? How about eggs?

amba: Is that meant as a test of my sexual orientation? No, that does not make pecans any more appealing to me.

I'm afraid I'm ... uncomfortable enough with that scenario to not care what ingredient made what part...

I have always thought the same thing about pecan pie and roaches.

And what about wild grain rice? I think those suckers look like little bugs, too.

mom underground: I've never thought that about rice, but sometimes if pastries are the right size and shape they remind me of rodents. That's probably just me, though.

I guess I'll still be able to wolf it down, since I think pitted dates looks exactly like jumbo roaches and I still manage to eat them. Of course, I suppose that one could also say that roaches are kind of cute, looking like little pecans as they do.

Christopher, no, I wrote about the pecan halves on the gingerbread women without thought of sexual orientation. Sorry, my bad.
