"This is why I need a gun."

Britney Spears nearly drops her baby again, this time on the streets of Manhattan while paparazzi were taking her picture. She also has a strangely vacant expression on her face throughout the near-dropping, and supposedly did remark afterwards, "This is why I need a gun." If you can't hold your baby properly to begin with, wouldn't carrying a gun at the same time make it all the more difficult?

She's thinking the _baby_ will hold it, silly.

Moving somewhat tangentially to the point of the post, I think it's sort of curious that we have so few celebrities here in the US for whom infants serve as a "plus" in their public image. Spears, of course, gets mocked for her poor parenting skills, and the insinuation in every one of these articles about her is that she had no business having babies anyhow.

Contrast that with, say, the Japanese actress Hirosue Ryoko (of the horrible teeth), who is roughly the same age as Spears, and who returned to her career last year after taking a year or two off to have a baby. She gets mentions in the press like "Hirosue-mama" etc. I don't read all that much entertainment news from Japan, so it's possible, I suppose, that there's all these denigrations of the new mother for her poor parenting skills over there too, and I just missed it, but the apparent contrast is interesting to me.

The baby's gonna drop either way: at least my way it's got a chance at a decent post-drop life.

Plus, no more new Brittney songs! It's win-win...
