Safe-Sex Education

A study conducted in schools of central Mexico showed that education on condom use had no effect on either the amount of sex teenagers had or their likelihood to use protection. Is it possible that STDs and condoms are so openly discussed today that formal education on the matter has become redundant?

Perhaps you are thinking like a middle class American, not a young Mexican.

"Is it possible that STDs and condoms are so openly discussed today that formal education on the matter has become redundant?"

Perhaps. Or,

Is it possible that the cultural and religious teachings on birth control and procreation outweigh any minimal discussin of STD prevention? To me, more likely.

Instead of oversaturation of the condom message (which might be true with American youngsters), perhaps it's just the opposite there? The message needs to be reinforced and it will take time to blend into their cultural ideas of family planning and the value on life? Don't be so quick to give up too soon
